The vision for this year’s ball is Symposium – an ancient Greek party centered around food, drink, and friends; a theme fit for such an event. Symposium was also studied by Plato in an attempt to question platonic love, and understanding the importance of becoming a lover of philosophy and of wisdom; hopefully the finalists amongst us have sought such wisdom through our degrees

Friends of Kumi Hospital

The Annual Senior Tutor’s Charity
This year’s Ladies’ Night Ball will be raising money for the ‘Friends of Kumi Hospital’ Charity, based in Eastern Uganda.
Two weeks ago I sat down with Eva to discuss how we could get all three common rooms involved in supporting the wider community at an international level. In previous years, the Senior Tutor has put forward numerous charities which we have supported; this year the aim is to support one charity throughout the year in order to provide ongoing support.
I hope to start building a blog which follows the hospital in Kumi in order to give us all an opportunity to see and understand where our donations are going.
Eva was very keen to support this cause in Kumi as it was set up by her close friend, Frances. She spoke passionately about the work they do with physically handicapped children in order to assist them with their everyday routine, whilst simultaneously providing additional support for their families. You can read about the inspiring work Kumi Hospital do at http://www.friendsofkumihospital.org.
Unfortunately, due to a delay in production the event silk wristbands will not be arriving in time for Ladies’ Night. These will however be available for collection early next week as a memento of the occasion. We will be accepting donations for Kumi during the wristband collection period.
Thank you all for your support.
